How to Reduce Stress: Live Longer and Better

Scientific studies are confirming what too many of us already experience: stress leads to illness. Among the many findings, illness can result from job demands and quarrels between spouses. Prolonged stress breaks down the immune system, and the quality and longevity of life is seriously affected.

But for people who have effective strategies, the stress is significantly minimized. One of the best and easiest strategies to eliminate stress is called EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques). This new strategy works by simply tapping on a series of acupressure points on the body. You can use these techniques to clear stuck emotions and self-defeating patterns, producing profound breakthroughs. It’s usually fast and amazingly effective -- and anyone can do it, including children. As best-selling author Rudolph Ballentine, M.D., says, “It’s the medicine of the future.”

Phillip Mountrose, co-author of the newly-released book and tapes Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT, offers these four keys to dealing with stress:

1. Evaluate the circumstances that are creating stress. Review the regular activities of your life and notice where the stress is coming from. Write a comprehensive list of the stressful situations you commonly find yourself in. This new awareness is where healing begins.

2. Find ways to reduce outside pressures.  Use an approach like the stress-reducing Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for a precise, easy-to-use way to balance your life.

3. Develop new responses to circumstances that are to remain. Relaxing music and a new attitude can work wonders. Just taking a few deep breaths and walking around a bit may make a big difference.

4. Find more ways to incorporate relaxation and pleasure into your life. This may include doing a regular relaxation process or meditation , walking in nature, taking an occasional bubble bath, having a relaxing massage, allowing an extra ten minutes to get where you need to go, and maybe taking a more scenic route. EFT can help here, too.

Phillip Mountrose is the author of  the award-winning Getting Thru to Kids: Problem Solving with Children Ages 6 to 18 and Tips and Tools for Getting Thru to Kids books. His recent book, co-authored with his wife Jane, is entitled Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT: Tap into Your Hidden Potential with the Emotional Freedom Techniques.  There are also two demonstration videotapes and two guided visualization audiotapes of the EFT material available directly from Holistic Communications.

The books and tapes are available from www.gettingthru.org, Amazon.com, or a 24-hour telephone ordering line at 800-431-1579. Books only are also available at your local bookstore. For more information on EFT, family resources and personal growth, visit www.gettingthru.org.

How to Stop Addictions & Cravings

Instead of reaching for that cigarette, swallowing some chocolate, or biting your nails, what else can you do? One surprisingly easy and healthy alternative is to tap on some acupressure points on your body.

The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a do-it-yourself technique that simply involves tapping seven “hot spots” on your body. It takes 1-2 minutes and is amazingly effective for eliminating addictions and bad habits.

“Unwanted habits or addictions provide a mask to relieve underlying anxiety,” writes Phillip Mountrose, co-author of Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT.  “A person can be drawn to a habit or substance because something is missing inside.”  Tobacco can relieve stress. Caffeine fulfills the drive to increase performance. Food can be a sedative for our emotions.

With our increasing awareness of the benefits of being smoke-free, chemical-free and so on, more and more people are looking for ways to overcome their addictions and habits. EFT has helped many people. It can reduce cravings;  release emotional patterns that feed the desire for the substance or behavior; and remove the fear of failure and increase the belief in success.

EFT is safe, reliable, and very effective for controlling or eliminating the urge for an addictive substance, gambling, excessive spending, and other behaviors and unwanted habits. Persistence and effort, though, is needed. But by simply tapping on a few key acupressure points on the body, the desire goes away, and by repeated EFT tapping over time, the problem fades into oblivion.

Four Reasons People Gain Weight

Why do so many diets fail?  The answer is found in what a person thinks. Regardless of how thin you want to be, certain limiting beliefs will forever keep the weight on.

People with weight problems are usually sabotaged by a part of themselves that does not want tolose weight. They are heavy in response to unconscious programming they received growing up .

Phillip Mountrose, co-author of the new book and videotapes Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT, identifies common beliefs that keep a person overweight, like these:

1.      Losing weight means starving.
2.      I need weight to protect myself.
3.      I don’t have time to exercise/ it's too difficult.
4.      If I’m thinner, I’ll attract a relationship and get hurt.

Such limiting beliefs determine our lifestyles. They make a person eat for reasons other than hunger, like reducing stress, overcoming boredom, and covering up loneliness. Real choice comes with awareness. You can decide at any time that things will be different -- then you can truly create the life you want.

The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a remarkably effective great way to gain greater self-awareness. By simply tapping on a series of points on the body, you can release negative emotions and beliefs that are holding you back. As you get in touch with your thoughts and feelings, you find out what keeps you heavy and how to truly change.

By correcting faulty thinking, you can take back control of your life. In the process, you begin to realize that you are lovable, whole, and complete just as you are. It’s much easier then to attain your ideal weight, since your beliefs will support you.  Then every month can be an enjoyable diet and fitness month.

A New Way to Increase Physical Activity and Performance

This summer let the power of your mind help to strengthen your body. EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a new do-it-yourself technique, which growing numbers of people have used to enhance their physical activity and performance.

EFT works by saying an affirmation about an area of concern and then simply tapping on a series of acupuncture points on the body. It requires no special instruments, works quickly, and has no side effects.

Pat Ahearn, a professional player in the Australian Baseball League, says, “I am so amazed with the effectiveness of EFT that I’ve made it as important a part of my baseball routine as throwing, running, or lifting weights.”

EFT can help the everyday person, as well as the trained athlete, by increasing physical activity and performance in the following ways:

Releasing fears and limitations. For example, many people fear that exercise is too difficult or time consuming. EFT quickly removes such self-defeating patterns.

Improving concentration. Mental focus is an integral part of success in any activity. More and more professional athletes are attributing their amazing feats as much to their mental conditioning as their physical training. And regardless of your ability, having a clear head requires clearing emotions like anxiety and doubt that prevent you from staying focused.

Helping to enjoy sports and exercise. The desire to move and exercise is a natural part of a person’s life. But the sedentary American lifestyle reflects how our thinking sometimes undermines us. Fortunately, it is never too late to change, and the body has an amazing ability to improve at any age. EFT can help remove our inertia, making it much easier to enjoy our lives and fulfill our goals.

The Secrets to Successful Relationships and EFT

If you want to get close to others, you need to get close to yourself. The way to gain that intimacy is by clearing up and speaking up -- clearing up minor irritations, and speaking up for yourself to those you love.

Clearing up:  Denying or stuffing your feelings bogs you down. Instead, identify what irritates you and find ways to overcome the disturbance. You can learn what keeps you stuck by observing yourself and keeping a journal. With increased awareness, you can discover how to make your life run more smoothly.

Speaking up: It’s also important to be able to express yourself appropriately to the ones you love. This does not mean dumping feelings. Rather, it involves having the self-control to express yourself at the right time, being sensitive to the other person.

The amazing technique called EFT (The Emotional Freedom Techniques) will help you to clear up and speak up. By simply tapping on a series of spots on the body, you can break free of stuck emotions and self-defeating patterns, creating profound breakthroughs. It takes about two minutes, just about anyone can do it, and it’s extremely effective. EFT will eliminate stress and a host of other problems, such as fear, anger, anxiety, phobias, and cravings that get in the way of our intimate relationships. As Rudolph Ballentine, M.D. and best-selling author of Radical Healing, says, “This is the medicine of the future.”
