2. HOW MUCH ARE YOU LIVING YOUR PURPOSE?
Your
deeper purpose in life springs from an underlying desire to
connect with a greater wholeness. To connect with that Greater
You entails exploring your full potential. By learning how to
practically live your dreams, you not only help yourself, but
beneficially affect many people, life forms, and the earth
itself.
Usually
somewhere between ages 35 to 50, the desire to go deeper into
ourselves emerges. This is sometimes called the fourth transit,
and it may be accompanied by a mid-life crisis. Stepping back
and viewing the bigger picture, there is a particular need for
many of us to go through this transit successfully and come more
into our fuller selves at this time in history.
Our
greater wholeness is where the answers lie; it generates our
creativity and zest for life. It creates self-fulfillment, which
in turn addresses the larger world, a world of contrast where
there can be so much wealth and so much poverty, so much
technology and so much ignorance, so much love and so much
cruelty.
To
tap into the Greater You, listen to your inner excitement, your
soulful inclinations and longings. Then follow up with action.
Clear blockages that stand in your way with EFT, Spiritual
Kinesiology, or other methods that work for you.
Doing
so creates self confidence and propels you forward on your
spiritual path. It helps you know where to direct your energies,
when to offer compassion, and when to accept things beyond your
control.
TO
DESIRE OR NOT TO DESIRE
Sometimes
we get confused about our deeper purpose when we try to deal
with our desires. There is the Eastern idea of desirelessness,
becoming an ethereal being who has transcended all earthly
desires. Yet while living on earth we are a part of this
material world. To become without desires, then, seems to be at
odds with why we incarnated on this plane. So how can we
understand our desires, both earthly and spiritual?
Most
desires are neutral in themselves if we do not become attached
or addicted to them. Pleasure is part of the earthly experience.
By being present to our desires, we enlist our soul, at once our
eternal witness and divine guide.
There
are higher desires, too, deeper gratifications that connect with
our true purpose. Such desires are ever present, and can be as
seemingly mundane as looking at a tree or taking a walk, or
something bigger, like going on a spiritual quest or starting a
big project. Such activities can put us in a timeless flow.
Being
aware of our desires can lead to our genuine passion. As Deepak
Chopra says,
“Passion
is crucial for existence. It is the source of our creativity.
And passion is the next stage beyond detachment and surrender. In
the Hindu world view … passion is the dynamic dance of the
male and feminine energies of the universe, often symbolized as
Shiva and Shakti.”
As we
progress on our spiritual path, we attune more to spirit, the
universe’s creative impulses that stir our soul to action and
guide our way. When we pay attention to our guidance, we are
inspired and led to fulfill our deeper purpose and greater
potential. In effect, our soul’s urges merge with our true
personality, our adult self. As a result, we thrive in a world
that is filled with fun and success.
