THE BIG
PICTURE
Who am I and why am I here? These are the timeless questions we all ask in our search to understand the big picture. These questions call to the soul, the eternal part of us that reaches beyond the physical trappings of our lives to grasp the underlying meaning. The soul understands that it is here to evolve and to contribute to the evolution of the whole in some joyful and loving way. But, in our journey into this third dimensional reality, most of us have lost our connection with this understanding, along with our connection with the soul. Fortunately, life is synchronous and the events of our lives are like puzzle pieces that we can put together to create the bigger picture. From these events, many of us have recognized that we are spiritual beings who are here with lessons to learn and gifts to share. But having more specific information can help us to complete the puzzle and allow our divine nature to touch all of the pieces of our lives. Both my wife Jane and I have been playing with this puzzle for more than 25 years. During that time, we have come across some valuable clues that can help you to understand what your soul had in mind when it brought you here. These puzzle pieces provide specific information and tools for understanding yourself and others in a more profound way, as well as guiding you to live in keeping with your soul’s essential nature and divine purpose. Our books Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT and Getting Thru to Your Soul, which I will refer to more simply as the Soul Book and the EFT Book, describe the basis of our approach and our understanding of the spiritual journey. They focus on healing the parts of ourselves that have become disconnected from the wholeness of the soul. These disconnected parts, which we call subpersonalities, prevent us from simply being ourselves in the present moment. They comprise the wounded ego, which the healing techniques help to heal. This program complements these other materials. In addition to healing, we also need to develop our self-awareness through an intentional process of consciousness-building to get a clear picture who we are and to see ourselves clearly in relation to the whole. We all want to be fully conscious, but as we approach the goal of awakening to our true purpose, we realize that there are many things about ourselves that we don’t know. Getting to know ourselves better and learning about our purpose are the focus of this audio program. Like many of you, we have explored a variety of psychological and spiritual approaches. From the mid-1970’s until the mid-80’s, Jane and I were members of an organization that followed the teachings of the Russian philosophers George Gurdjieff and Peter Ouspensky. These teachings, which are known as the Fourth Way, focus on self-observation and self-awareness as a vehicle for evolutionary development. In his written works, Peter Ouspensky described the Fourth Way as fragments of an unknown teaching. Its primary goal is to learn to simply be in the present moment. We still consider being present to be one of the ultimate goals of the spiritual journey, creating an experience of joy, love and freedom from limitation. We view this as the birthright of the soul. As members of the Gurdjieff group, we learned ways to be present, along with some invaluable tools for understanding the human condition. But as the years passed, we started to feel like we were stagnating and felt that something was off. We knew we were missing some big pieces of the puzzle and set out to find them, without having any idea of where to look. As synchronicity would have it, we were led to the Michael teachings, which we came to understand as the unknown teaching Peter Ouspenski had referred to decades earlier in his presentation of the fourth way. The Michael material, which you may or may not have heard about, came into view in the early 1980’s and provided a more complete picture of the human condition and the evolutionary journey we were seeking. It contains some of the same information that we learned in the Gurdjieff group, along with some of the missing pieces of the puzzle. The puzzle came together even more when we started to explore healing techniques, including hypnotherapy, NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming), Reiki, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and developed our own approaches, like the Getting Thru Techniques and Spiritual Kinesiology, which is the subject of the Soul Book. We learned that we can create a conscious connection with the soul and use it to heal the wounded parts. Harmonizing the different subpersonalities, or wounded ego, speeds up the evolutionary process dramatically, because these are the parts that pull us out of the present moment and the experience of love, joy and freedom we all deserve. THE THREE ELEMENTS OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH As we mention in the soul book, some people hope that simply activating higher frequencies of energy will propel them forward on the spiritual journey, without the need for healing or integrating greater awareness. From our personal experience and in working with hundreds of others, this simply doesn’t work. We have also found that the continuous use of healing techniques alone doesn’t produce the desired result. The imbalance comes from the absence of integrating and activating more of the soul’s awareness. Many of you have probably seen this with the use of modalities like Reiki, Hypnotherapy, NLP, and EFT if there is not a strong soul awareness connected with the approach. And I started this audio by describing how we need to focusing on consciousness-building, which includes developing more self-awareness, along with healing and activating. So, over the years, our approach has evolved to include three main elements, which also relate to the three parts of any healing process we describe in the soul book. These include
Specifically this approach means to heal the wounded parts of ourselves, integrate more understanding of ourselves and the human condition, and activate more of the awareness of the soul and the higher realms. Any of the three taken alone only provide partial results, because we are leaving the rest to chance, while the three together lead us on an upward spiral to higher and higher levels of self-realization. In our work with clients, we have confirmed the need for all three elements. When the healing techniques are not working, there is usually something the client needs to understand consciously. Or when our clients don’t have a sense of what their purpose is, the information I am going to share with you helps them to get to know themselves better and move forward with confidence. This audio series focuses on the consciousness-building element of spiritual growth as a way to facilitate your process of awakening to your true purpose. This includes important ideas drawn from our experiences with the Gurdjieff group and the Michael material, along with the understanding we have drawn from our souls’ guidance and our counseling work. On this first audio, I’m going to start with an overview of "The Big Picture" and its key aspects. I’ll be taking you on a tour of the spiritual journey, focusing on awakening to your true purpose and providing suggestions for integrating more of it into your life right away. I will also provide guidelines for staying on track and making continued progress in the upcoming weeks and months. THE FOUR OBJECTIVES Awakening to your true purpose is a process of personal transformation, as you progressively integrate more of your soul’s presence into your life. Even though we might like this to happen quickly and easily, without making any personal effort, this is a journey that unfolds in its own time and in its own way. A more healthy approach is to head in the direction you want to go without placing any conditions on how it will come to pass and what you might encounter along the way. Jane and I could not have foreseen the form our purpose has taken, but we are elated with the direction our lives are going in. We can also see now how other seemingly unrelated things we learned and did along the way contributed to the spiritual growth and knowledge we needed to bring us where we are now. To put it into context, we have identified four key objectives that will keep you going in the right direction. They are: 1. Enlisting your resources:Here I am referring to opening to your soul and other spiritual resources for healing and guidance. 2. Understanding your essential nature: This involves developing awareness of the qualities your soul has chosen for you to explore, the lessons it wishes to learn and its ultimate purpose for being here in this life 3. Taking action: This includes devising a flexible plan to express yourself and fulfill your purpose. This plan allows you to reap immediate rewards and open to unimaginable possibilities over time. 4. Clearing blockages: This involves removing the roadblocks that prevent you from freely bringing joy, love, and freedom into your life. I will map out the particulars for each of these objectives on this audio. Then in the rest of the program, I will examine key parts of these goals that relate to consciousness-building.
